About the Artist
Jorge L. Barrios
Jorge Lazaro Barrios was born on November 20th, 1968 in Hialeah, Florida to Cuban parents that migrated to the United Sates from Fidel Castro’s Communist Cuba. He and his family enjoyed the warmth of the Florida sun and called Miami home.
From an early age, Jorge learned that creativity was his strength, and was fortunate enough to have grade school teachers that motivated and inspired him. Following numerous awards and achievements though high school, in 1987 Jorge graduated and moved on to Commercial Advertising, which became the focus of his career.
Although for most of his adult life his creative talent was mostly dedicated to graphics, now at 47 Jorge expresses his Cuban flavor and passion for fine art on canvas. His work is influenced and inspired by Masters like Amelia Pelaez, local artists, and his wonderful children, Sofia, Jake and Ryan. His most recent pieces are colorful, vibrant, impactful and expressive. Themes vary from abstract to surrealism, but always remain true to his culture. The mediums of choice are acrylic on canvas and mixed media, but Jorge admits that he intends to get dirty with new paints and mediums as he moves forward.
“The best is yet to come,” Jorge suggests. “Inspirations will surely come from life’s joys and challenges.”
